Die Höhle Mas d’Azil ist auch berühmt für ihre mit rotem Ocker bemalten Kieselsteine, die sinnigerweise als Vulva interpretiert werden können. Diese Form von bemalten Kieselsteinen fanden sich auch im Abri Dufaure in Espelugues, in la Tourasse, in Marsoulas und in weiteren Höhlen des Départements Ariège. Außerdem wurden derart bemalte Kiesel oder Kalksteinplatten in der Schweiz, in der Eremitage Arlesheim in Birseck, sowie im Hohle Fels in der Schwäbischen Alb, dem Fundort der Gott-Mutter- vom Hohle Fels in Deutschland, sowie in der Klausenhöhle im Altmühltal in Bayern, am ältesten Bestattungsort von Mulier-Homo sapiens in Deutschland gefunden.
